Layouts with correct letters

In my layout experiments before, the letter W was actually a V. So to fix this error I cut the letters out again and tried out some more layouts.

The letters before were also free-hand-drawn,
this time I actually drew out an x-height grid in my sketchbook and using a ruler and measurements I drew out my letters, then I traced them onto tracing paper and from that onto black card which I then carefully cut out.

Some of these experiments I strongly dislike, some I quite like.
I like the idea of the barcode on his face, as a designer and Trumps hater, thats me telling him to shut up and give up with the help of a barcode.
At the start I really liked the idea of the letters being reversed but I've come to conclude that I'd rather they were the right way round, baring in mind this is a brand new magazine, It should be legible what it is actually called, I wouldn't want to risk people mistaken it for something it is not. This is why it is so helpful to try out many different combinations and ideas and look at them as a whole. I found it very helpful actually having cut outs on the table and constantly moving the bits and pieces about and photographing them rather than working on photoshop from scratch.
I started off with rather busy collages, at the time I thought they look alright but I am the kind of person who, in design especially, loves simplicity. Busy, cluttered covers remind me of shitty gossip magazines and I do not want my magazine to be like that.

Even though some of these are really not good at all, It's important to be able to see development and how I got to where I am now, the following images are all todays experiments which I came up with fairly quickly thanks to the cut out elements making it a lot easier for me.
Currently I am going with the last image in this blog post, I have enlarged it to make it clear.
