In order to mimic some other photographers, I set myself a challenge of trying out Bill Henson's floating girl photograph. It took me almost all day to get it to work, but eventually I came up with a result that I am happy with.

This is the original photograph, I fell in love with it straight away when looking at Bill Henson's photography, I thought that I should try and copy this so I can have my very own version. |

Hahahahaha this is awful. This is how it started, when I was taking portraits of Dominika, in the end I got her to lay on two chairs and have her arm falling down, looking relaxed as if she is sleeping. I then selected her and refined edge (which didn't work as I'd hoped) Then, because I didn't have my own photograph of city lights I searched for one on the internet for ages and this was the only one I found with a decent resolution. This is really awful, so I tried again. |

Took a different picture and applied the same process, this time I used a photo of the moon that I took, I thought this was a little better but I wanted something more. |

This was the success, I like this. I took a different approach that time, I really darkened a photo I took of (slightly lit) Gala, and changed the brightness and contrast on the picture of Dominika. When I merged layers later, I changed the contrast to even higher so that you couldn't really see the bottom half of her body making it look a little more interesting. I like this as a result of mimicking Bill Henson because mine is very subtle with the little amount of lights - because it is a small town that I live in, and I used my best friend as the floating girl, it's my own, better version. However I will try this again with the model wearing more floaty clothes so it looks more natural. |
