Artist Talk. Liz Douglas

Painter, but not quite. Liz works in anything she can get her hands on. In her powerpoint she showed us all the work she made straight after college which were very abstract pieces that turned out to have a lot of planning and meaning behind them, I always like to hear from the artist what their works represent as it turns out to be something completely different than I thought. Even her phrases were difficult to define, abstract in her speech... "What you see is what you see" I don't know what thats meant to mean but I'm working on it.

Liz likes to think about what things were thousands of years ago, for example the place she works in, paints, what was it before? Represents that in her work. I found it really interesting when she said "take it out of your control to create something different" That spoke to me as I tend to keep things under control, if they don't they will get scraped, recently I tried a new approach thanks to Liz Douglas and her opinion; that mistakes are quite exciting.

Her work was nice, I liked how much she liked research and her work wasn't always the best it was about learning, there are so many things to learn out there, so many things we know nothing about, why not find out about them and turn them into art, amazing.

Would hang her stuff on my wall.
