What is location photography?
Location photography is when you go to where the subject is instead of the subject coming to your studio. That's a very wide range of possibility, meaning it can be anything and practically anywhere. The way that I think of it, is that if you, for example, wanted to take a portrait of a certain person, you go to their location to take it, rather than inviting them to your space. Here are some location photographs that I have had a look at and liked from the book "how you look at it" which consists of photographs of the 20th century.
Robert Frank - Elevator 1955/56
Paul Strand - Untitled 1916

Robert Frank - Los Angeles 1955/56

William Eggleston - Greenwood, Missisipi 1972

Brassai - Streetwalker near the Place d'Italie

Gary Winogrand - Peace Demonstration, Cental Park 1970

Lee Friedlander
