Elliot Erwitt. Photography Report

Elliot Erwitt, American advertising and documentary photographer, known for his black and white candid shots of ironis and absurd situations within everyday settings. I support anything that's ironic, sarcastic, or controversial and black and white. So I pretty much already love this photographer.

Looking at these photographs I have had a sudden realization, being a photographer isn't just about taking good photo's, it's also about the idea. So these following photographs grabbed my attention not just because they are good photo's and have interesting qualities, but the subject matter in them too, all the details get together to create a successful image. The first image, of the young boy with a gun put to his head, smiling, sells a story about racism and it can be an emotional image. As well as that, it is also a well thought through photograph. The blurred background keeps the boy in focus so that he is dominant in the image, the body language, facial expression are all factors which complete the photo and make it as ironic as it is. But the question from me is, does the success of the photo looking real depend on the way that the photographer works with their model? Is to do with the models potential in acting and making it real?

I think that the idea in this photograph is great, the model has swapped places with the artist making it humorous and effective at the same time, effective because of the viewpoint and how it looks so natural, like it's a normal situation.
