FMP - installation planning.
After a little bit of planning out, I have decided that putting food out on plates in the installation would be a terribly awful idea. The smell would ruin the whole exhibition, if I was to do a whole week's worth of food it would be a lot of food, which would most likely go off (as the hall gets hot during the exhibition) it would probably just ruin everybody's experience. So I thought about the use of typography instead, I have recently started writing up a food diary again (as this unit has made me more calorie conscious again) so I also have more to work with. I want to utilise the boards that we are given to hang our stuff on as a chalk board/white board. Then in chunky capital letters (without any punctuation) write out some pages out the food and exercise diary. Just like I did in the image below.
I want to do it this specific way because I feel punctuation wouldn't have the same 'never ending' effect as does this writing in capitals all the way through with no full stops or commas. The never ending effect would help with the idea of binge eating disorder fluctuating through my life, even though I battled through it years ago it still likes to make an appearance and by the looks of it it always will.
Using my own handwriting will help make it feel very personal, it's so personal many of my close friends/relatives don't know about it and I feel that using it as a topic for my final major project was a very big step for me, so I really feel the handwritten type works well in this context.
I am unsure about the use of dates in the text as I feel like too much will be given away, with the food, exercises and dates - still don't want the audience to be spoon-fed.
Over the hand written text, I will have images projected on the top of them, I will choose only 5-10 images to be projected through a power-point over and over in a cycle, again to represent the never-ending cycle of the disorder. I want everything to be very neat, clean and tidy in the installation to represent order. As when I am in the cycle of writing food diary and exercising - that's usually when everything is in order and when binging occurs I don't write it down and everything is rather chaotic (this installation will represent the in-control part rather than the chaotic part of the disorder)
